The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) proudly presents an exclusive continuing education opportunity designed to deepen your understanding and application of Experiential Therapy, offered 4 ways.
What is Experiential Therapy?
Experiential Therapy is a powerful therapeutic approach that engages clients in activities and experiences to help them explore and resolve psychological issues. This form of therapy integrates action-based techniques such as role-playing, art, music, guided imagery, and outdoor activities. These methods provide clients with a dynamic and interactive way to process emotions and experiences, leading to profound personal insights and healing.
Why Choose Experiential Therapy?
Experiential Therapy is uniquely effective in helping clients access and process deeply rooted emotions that may be difficult to articulate through traditional talk therapy alone. By involving clients in creative and physical activities, it opens pathways to emotional and cognitive breakthroughs that foster long-lasting change.
Evidence-Based Benefits of Experiential Therapy
Enhanced Emotional Processing
Studies have shown that Experiential Therapy significantly improves emotional processing in clients. The research found that clients participating in experiential activities showed a greater ability to identify and express their emotions compared to those in traditional therapy settings.
Improved Therapeutic Outcomes for Trauma
Research shows the effectiveness of Experiential Therapy in treating trauma survivors. Studies reveal that incorporating experiential techniques such as psychodrama and expressive arts resulted in notable reductions in PTSD symptoms and increased overall well-being among participant.
Positive Impact on Anxiety and Depression
Multiple studies show that Experiential Therapy has a significant positive impact on clients suffering from anxiety and depression. The active engagement in therapeutic activities was shown to decrease symptoms more effectively than traditional cognitive-behavioral approaches alone .
Sheila provides continuing education by teaching Experiential Therapy in a group setting. She assists clinicians who want options for treating trauma, co-dependency and addiction using experiential techniques. Solid rationale for how and why Experiential Therapy is effective and when it should be used is provided. Her groups for professionals are experiential in nature and demonstrate how to create safety and willingness with clients as well as demonstrate specific interventions and enactments. These classes are interactive and hands on. They do not utilize any power point presentations.
