Sheila Maitland, LCMHCS
Sheila has been working with individuals, couples, groups and families for more than 20 years. With a focus on addiction and co-addiction, Sheila works with her clients to discover the cause of their pain, uncover trauma and heal these wounds. The quote, “Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it” seems to resonate well for people. Clients come because the want relief and resolution from painful, unproductive patterns of behavior that stem from the family they came from. Pain is incredibly motivating and people often come to therapy because they’re needing resolution.
In addition, Sheila is obtaining her Certified Sex Addiction Therapist credential which enables her to work with sex addicts, their partners and/or the couple. When individuals and or couples find themselves in the chaos of porn or sex addiction, they need to work with someone properly trained to work with such a sophisticated illness.
Sheila also works with professionals providing continuing education and clinical supervision in North Carolina. She obtained her “S” in 2013 and enjoys teaching, facilitating and guiding new therapists in developing into their full potential, and full licensure. She provides both individual and group supervision for LPCAs which typically takes 2-3 years. She trains professionals, provisionally licensed and fully licensed therapists in treating trauma.
Sheila is a Supervisor and consulting therapist to the nationally recognized Onsite Workshops, and has enjoyed being a part of the organization throughout her career. She is also a Certified Daring Way Facilitator which means she’s certified in Brene Brown’s work and leads groups dealing with shame, resilience and worthiness.
Sheila’s practice is in Matthews, NC. Sheila enjoys a rich marriage and family life with her husband, son and Golden Retriever.
